The project in Dolakha while exploring gender-based constraints in the wintergreen value chain will also work to increase availability of wintergreen in Dolakha, increase efficiency of the distillation process, enhance participation of women in the value chain and improve the governance of community forest user groups (CFUGs) to make it more inclusive and gender-sensitive.
The project will work with two community forest user groups of Dolakha- Sankhadevi CFUG and Setidevi Dadar CFUG, establish wintergreen nursery and experiment on artificial propagation of wintergreen in nurseries and work with the CFUGs and women’s group for plantation of wintergreen saplings in community forests and private lands.

“Wintergreen collection is a good source of income for my family. I regularly go for collections but the scenario is different now than in the earlier years. We did not have to travel much but now it has become a daunting task due to its decreasing availability.”
